U15s progress to Super 8s finals day29 December 2013 - 13:31:02West u15s progressed to tomorrow's finals day last night by virtue of topping their group on nett run rate at Hutchesons Grammar School.
Playing in a tough group the boys beat Hillhead CC in game 1 reaching the required total of 51 in 4 overs without loss. Johnny Stark 31ret the standout performance.
In game 2, West did well to contain Poloc to 59 runs in their 7 overs. In reply a start of 0-3 within 2 overs left the team with a real uphill struggle but brave knocks of 23 from Callum Coats and an unbeaten 15no off the last over from Murray Godsman limited the defeat to only 7 runs.
With results in the other matches the boys had a must win final game against Glasgow Accies who had earlier beaten Poloc. Another great bowling performance led by skipper James Guy and Robbie McCallum limited the Accies to 54 in their 7 overs. With the bat Angus Guy led the chase with an unbeaten 22, including a six to see the game won in the 5th over.
In the end a good afternoon's cricket with all the boys stepping up to the plate when it mattered.
Finals day tomorrow at 1.30pm against holders Clydesdale CC and winners of the earlier group, along with Ayr CC who qualified as best placed runners up.

A perfect 10 for the u13s as they land the treble02 September 2013 - 22:05:11West's u13s completed their 10 game unbeaten league campaign with a 9 wicket win against Clydesdale CC at Titwood this evening.
Clydesdale won the toss and elected to bat in what was a 16 over match (it is September!). They started at a brisk pace until u11 Angus Barrett was brought into the bowling and he took the wickets of Ashraf, Macias and Cairns. This had the effect of also putting a brake on the batting side's run rate and a few more scalps were taken before Clydesdale finished on 67-7 after their 16 overs.
With a low target set, skipper Coats put u11 Angus Guy and Aidan Fitzgerald in to open the batting to burn out the Dale bowling attack's overs in the shortened format. Not only did they do that but put on a 59 run partnership to make the game safe. Aidan eventually chipped one ball too many (!) to be caught on 25, however Angus Guy saw the team home with an excellent unbeaten 32 with 4.3 overs to spare. Both boys showed great maturity with some beautiful shots along the way.
So a great win to finish off a terrific league campaign. The league trophy was presented to Callum Coats after the match by Tim Hart, and the boys can put it into the trophy cabinet next to the WDJCU League Cup and ECB National Club Championship Trophy won during the season.
A terrific achievement from a great group of boys who have all represented themselves and their club with distinction over a long season. We should be proud of them all.Posted by: Bob Coats
