Last over thriller at Hamilton Crescent

On Sunday, Hamilton Crescent was host to one of the games of the season as West of Scotland Women took on high flyers, Royal High Corstorphine (RHC).

West Women started well with youngster Sophie Trickett scoring 49 opening the batting before falling to a great catch at covers as it looked as though she was moving toward here first half century. Captain Charlotte Dalton played well for 58 supported by Maryam Faisal (16*) as the team scored 185-6 off their 30 overs.

In reply, the RHC opening pair Taylor (32) and Patel (107) batted brilliantly taking the team to 130 until young bowler Faatima Gardee got the breakthrough in the 23rd over bowling Taylor out.

Patel continued to bat well and kept RHC close to victory batting alongside Farooq (17*) going into the last over needing 11 runs to win. Four balls in, with Patel on strike and 5 runs away from victory, West Captain Charlotte Dalton bowled Patel on the penultimate ball of the game leaving Corstorphine needing a boundary to tie and to clear the ropes for a win with a new batter at the crease.

Despite the best efforts, Dalton got a second wicket courtesy of a Maisie Taylor stumping as West secured a 4 run victory.

The win leaves West Women in a strong position with four games to go and the title still in their sights.
