West of Scotland Win Wee Bash Round 5

Sunday saw West of Scotland Women and the joint Glasgow University/West teams competing in the fifth leg of the Wee Bash in Glasgow. This time it was West of Scotland who ran out winners.

Glasgow Uni/West started with a close game against Watsonian. After losing a couple of early wickets in the chase it looked like Watsonian were on track to win. However, Nadia hit a quick fire 25 runs setting the game up for Maisie to hit the winning runs in the final game. The team went on to win the rest of their group games, Abataha and Neha continuing to score plenty of runs and Emily taking several wickets.

Meanwhile West of Scotland started brilliantly, posting 85 runs in their first game and bowling out their opposition for two. A hat-trick from Nayma in the first over was followed by another hat-trick from Faatima in the second over. West went on to win the rest of their games with Georgie taking a remarkable seven catches.

West were run close by Clydesdale. Having been set a target of 80, Sophie and Nayma opened the batting well to keep the chase on. Moon accelerated things with three consecutive sixes. However, she was run out in the final over, leaving Harriet and Georgie to bring it home. This set up a final between second placed West of Scotland and league leaders GU/West.

West of Scotland were put in to bat and posted 68/2 with Nayma and Sophie hitting 25 between them, followed up with 30 from Moon. Abataha, Neha and Nadia all made decent scores but GU/West were losing wickets regularly, with Harriet taking a big wicket. With 20 runs required of the last two overs, Moon took two quick wickets leaving Sophie to take two of her own in the final over to secure victory. Nayma's two catches and a run out in the field proved vital to the win.

With two legs of the Wee Bash left, West of Scotland remain in second place having closed the gap on Glasgow University/West of Scotland.
