Galloping to Success: Nearly £1400 raised for the Club!

Last night, we hosted our first Race Night in several years – and it was well worth the wait!

In the recent storm, our batting cage was badly damaged beyond repair, and Saturday’s event provided the perfect opportunity to raise funds for its replacement.

Even before the first race, attendees enjoyed the brilliant horse and jockey names that had been purchased. Among the 80 entries, my favourites were Beth’s jockey, Novak Jockeyvich, and our Club Groundsman Andy’s horse, Sexy and I Mow It. A huge thank you to everyone who bought a horse or jockey and to those who donated prizes for the winners!

On the night, The Magic Agency did an excellent job leading us through the races, culminating in a thrilling auction race. Every race had a sponsor, and we were lucky to have support from a fantastic mix of local businesses and club members:

1. GoArmy – Scotland’s largest army surplus store.

2. Andy Carswell – The groundsman himself!

3. Bricks and Mortar Mortgages – A local mortgage broker on Crow Road.

4. Nadia Rose Tattoo – A talented city-centre tattoo artist (several club members can vouch for her work!).

5. Bantawala by Masala Twist – An excellent Indian restaurant on Byres Road – well worth a visit!

6. Chris Ross – Club director, junior coach, volunteer… the man does it all!

Once the bookies closed and winnings were paid out, we were delighted to find that we had raised just under £1,400 for the Club! Thanks to this incredible community effort, this morning we purchased the new batting cage, which is set to arrive in time for the season’s start in a couple of weeks. On behalf of the Club, I can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity and support!
