Gavin Smith Takes 5 in 5

Batting first, wickets were a huge blow to West, at both 20-4 and 48-6.

However, wickets don’t tell the whole picture. West’s run rate was strong - and not through slogging - putting away bad balls consistently. Fennah (15 runs in 18 balls), Corner (29 in 48), Player (21 in 32) and Etheridge (17 in 22) all chipped in without kicking on. 116 was the final total.

With the ball, valuable work from Hussain, Player and Fennah kept Greenock behind target, building pressure. Additionally the safe hands of Farndale and Corner kept Greenock batting slowly and wickets chipping away.

However, Gavin Smith's second spell, taking six wickets for two runs was the clear match-winning performance. The paceman finished with 7-15 and West ran out winners by 22 runs.
