Get To Know Your Captains: Nadia Tolliday
Continuing our captains series, Nadia Tolliday, Captain of the Women’s XI in 2025, told us her reflections on the 2024 season and what we should expect from the side next season.
Reflecting on an impressive 2024 season, in which the West of Scotland Women’s XI reached the Beyond Boundaries T20 Cup final and a number of players achieved international call ups, Nadia highlighted the importance of playing as a team. “The 2024 season was a little different for the women's side, sadly we lost some players but I strongly feel like the season was the best collective effort so far. There were so many stand out performances from many players throughout! When we all played together, we felt like a West unit.”
Reflecting on the successes of the season, Nadia chose the Beyond Boundaries quarter final win over Lomond Lynx as the highlight. “It was a close game and everyone contributed to get that win. After our disappointing league season, it was the encouragement we all needed.”
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Nadia set her sights on team building and winning more matches. “I was honoured to be reappointed as captain again, and I look forward to the new season with Beth Haley by my side as vice-captain. Personally, I’m aiming to carry on getting wickets and scoring runs for my team. There's always room to improve, more wickets to take and runs to get. Maybe look to build some good batting partnerships.”
During the winter months, Nadia spends her time on more creative tasks. “With no cricket I tend to go back to my abandoned hobbies, such as painting and anything artsy. I have a new love for Pickleball (a racket sport which has taken off in the UK over the last decade) as it helps to keep my hand-eye co-ordination going.”
She took a moment to encourage anyone considering joining the club to do so. “I have been at West for 6 years and have really enjoyed my time here. It is such a lovely and welcoming place and now that the bar has been done up, a good place for a pint!”
