What a weekend of cricket - rain, runs, wickets and silverware all making an appearance!

Shayan Anwar walks off after scoring 126.

Anwar and Etheridge star in Partick XI win

On Saturday, with the McCrea FS West of Scotland XI called off without completing the first innings at New Williamfield, all eyes were on the Partick XI as they took on East Kilbride at Hamilton Crescent. Shayan Anwar was the star again, smashing an incredible 126 and batting for nearly the full 50 overs. It was a display of hitting the Hamilton Crescent crowd have become accustomed to, but it was not any less impressive, reaching his century with a massive 6 into the clubhouse. That was just one of 19 boundaries (7 sixes!) in his innings. In reply to Partick XI’s 269/8, East Kilbride never got going, with Graeme Etheridge taking 6 wickets as we dismissed them for 86. A big win, cementing the team’s position at the top of the table.

Greenwood Trophy Final

On Sunday, the Partick XI were in action again in the Greenwood Trophy final. A separate article will be out this week with all the detail, but the car was heavier due to a silver coloured object on the way home… Keep an eye out for the article.

Long trip rewarded with win in Aberdeen

The other big weekend fixture was in Aberdeen, as the West of Scotland Women’s XI took on Northern Lights at Mannofield. Knowing a win would put them into finals day, Tolliday started the day well, as she called correctly at the toss and chose to bat. Her decision was rewarded, as Faisal and Sheikh put on 41 for the first wicket with plenty of boundaries. Dominating the run scoring, Faisal reached her 50 before being dismissed for an entertaining 58 off 42 balls, leaving the side 90/3. Wickets them came quickly, but Harrison batted well with the lower order as West finished 111/9 off their 20 overs, Harrison finishing 21 not out. In reply, Northern Lights kept up with the rate, but wickets fell regularly. Scotland internationalist McColl was the key batter, but Stanton took her wicket for 29 to leave them 42/3. A collapse began with the fall of her wicket, Stanton and Mughis taking 4 wickets a piece as Northern Lights were bowled out for 62. A magnificent win for West, as they book a spot at finals day on 20th August at Doo'cot Park in Perth.

John Oliver takes on Antigua with the Scotland Men’s Performance Academy

All rounder John Oliver’s excellent season was celebrated this week with more representation at national level. Representing the Scotland Men’s Performance Academy against an Antigua XI, he returned respective figures of 7-3-18-0 and scored 25 not out with the bat. John has been a consistent performer with bat and ball all season, and the club is pleased to see these efforts recognised. Plenty more to come!
