Partick XI retains Greenwood trophy as Rawat stars with ball

On Sunday, the Partick XI travelled to the south side to face off against Langside in the highly anticipated Greenwood Trophy final. With a previous victory in 2022, team captain Jonathan Williams was eager to clinch the trophy once again.

The action kicked off with a promising start as skipper Williams won the toss and opted to set the target. Jakobson and the standout performer from the previous day, Anwar, took to the crease. Unfortunately, Jakobson fell early to Mahal, but Anwar provided a brief thrill with a powerful six before being dismissed for 20 in the sixth over. Partick XI found themselves at 37/2 following his dismissal.

The team's batting performance remained a rollercoaster ride, with players struggling to establish substantial innings on a tricky pitch. Captain Williams held firm, steering the team to a respectable total of 118/6 in their allotted 20 overs, ending his innings unbeaten at 29 from 41 balls.

Langside's turn at bat saw Etheridge and Anwar leading the Partick XI's bowling effort. Anwar's initial overs were under attack, yielding 17 runs, while Etheridge kept it tight at his end. A pivotal moment came when Rawat was introduced. In a remarkable display, he claimed three wickets in just four deliveries, including Khan, Mahal, and Afzal. This dramatic turn of events shifted the momentum of the game, leaving Langside struggling to keep up.

With Etheridge and Dhillon contributing additional wickets from the other end, Langside's hopes of reaching the target dwindled. The defining moment arrived as Jakobson took an excellent boundary catch, ending Langside's inning at a modest score of 73. The victory was sealed, and the Greenwood Trophy was secured by the Partick XI.

The team's journey through the competition showcased remarkable victories against St Ninians, Mearns, GHK, and Dean Park, culminating in a well-deserved triumph over Langside. The Partick XI's effort throughout the campaign is something they can be very proud of. A big thank you to all those who came out to support us.

The team’s focus now returns to the League campaign as well as the Western Cup final.
