Partick win Handsomely
After losing the toss and being sent into bat, Jesse Mills and skipper Rob Corner started quickly, scoring 18 off the first 2 overs. On a good wicket with short boundaries, the pair continued to attack the bowling with Jesse taking the lead role.
With the field spread, Corner and Mills struggled to hit boundaries with the same regularity, but the rate did not decrease, bringing up the 100 partnership in the 11th over. Skipper Corner’s prediction of it being a 120 pitch was now looking like a terrible assessment. Mills’ superb innings climaxed when the left armer bowled into his slot 3 balls in a row with Jesse kindly dispatching him onto the bank each time.
His innings was eventually ended at 77 with the score on 125 in the 13th over when he tried one to many big shots, bowled by the talented young leg spinner from Uddingston. The spinner bowled an intelligent spell with variations which made it difficult to get it away. Someone to look out for in the future.
Corner’s half century followed the wicket but after hitting 14 off the first 3 balls of the 16th over, he was bowled. Andrew Galloway struck more lusty blows in the final few overs to leave Partick 193-3 after their 20 overs. An imposing total.
Bothwell Castle started incredibly, smashing the ball to all parts with Abdul Sabri reaching 30 before the other opener had got off the mark. The Partick quicks’ figures weren’t a pretty sight. However, Partick fought back: Keiran Chance bowling the opener for duck with a beauty through the gate. Sabri’s incredible 52 off 20 balls was then ended by Chance again as his impressive spell continued. The score 55-1 after six overs. Simon Brown also bowled another impressive spell without reward.
Corner continued to rotate his bowlers with the scoreboard pressure building with every dot ball. The pressure eventually lead to regular wickets, with Dhillon taking two in two balls to finish with four wickets off his three overs, and Ashworth picking up three.
Bothwell Castle were eventually bowled out for exactly 100 to give Partick the win.
It was a professional and imposing performance for the defending champions, something the skipper had wanted to see from this fixture.
Partick continue their search for the treble on Tuesday in the Western Cup where they travel to play Albert Park. Corner hopes to take the momentum from this win into their next fixture.
