Wee Bash Wins for West Women
West of Scotland and a combined Glasgow University/West side had another successful round of the Wee Bash cricket tournament on Sunday 20th January in Edinburgh.
GUCC/West dominated in the group stages, recording wins against Galloway, Edinburgh University, Watsonians and West of Scotland. Opposition teams continue to struggle with the high quality batting and relentless six hitting from the top four. West of Scotland ran them closest - meaning it is two games to one in Glasgow Uni/West's favour this winter..
In the final of the tournament, GUCC/West came up against Moray. A mix-up between the openers and a brilliant catch from Moray put them at a disadvantage. They did not recover as Moray became the first team this winter to beat them other than their inter-club rivals.
The West of Scotland team found the group stages tougher. Their opening game against Watsonians went down to the last ball, with Watsonians batting, scores tied and both teams having lost two wickets. The final ball of the game saw West take a crucial wicket, meaning they snatched the win on wickets taken. Another close game against Galloway went down to the last over with some big hitting seeing West win. Losing to Glasgow Uni/West meant that 3rd place was the highest finish available which West managed, comfortably winning their last game and the 3rd/4th play-off.
The results leave Glasgow Uni/West with a significant lead in the table with three tournaments to go, with West of Scotland CC trailing by six points in second place.
