West Keep Up Wee Bash Form
West Women played the second round of Cricket Scotland’s Wee Bash last Sunday (17th November) in Edinburgh.
It was freezing inside and outside but fortunately the heat of competition made the sports hall steaming hot towards the end. West started their group with a game against West Lothian and batted first leaving WLCC a tough but reachable target of 102. West’s bowling was destructive from the start though and left WLCC 70 short.
Next up were St Andrew’s Uni – a quasi-religious war breaking out with the Saints versus the Bishops. Again, West batted first with the left right combination of Sophie and Nayma launching the ball to all corners and helping West to 103. St Andrew’s started brightly in reply but caved under some venomous bowling from Moon and Faatima (aka The Missile) making West look less like Bishops and more like Surly Nuns.
Next up for the Surly Nuns was Edinburgh Green who batted first and made 49 which was promptly knocked off.
West Women were in the final – waiting to meet them were our great friends from Dumfries and Galloway Black. West fielded first and in a frightening display of speed bowling the first two wickets fell quickly to Faatima but Galloway fought back as we knew they would and started fighting fire with fire. Soon though, a combination of great fielding and wicket keeping restricted Galloway to 31.
Galloway bowled exceptionally well and removed a couple of West wickets quickly but 31 was never going to be enough against the West youngsters and they saw the game out comfortably to be crowned winners for the successive time.
