The Forecast: West vs Clydesdale - you don’t want to miss it!
The Forecast will be our series of weekend previews for the 2025 season. We hope to cover team selection, form, fixtures and who to look out for in the weekend’s fixtures! We hope to not have to cover the rain!
After last week’s washout, the weather is looking more settled for this weekend (only just…)
On Saturday, the West of Scotland XI will host Clydesdale at Hamilton Crescent in a friendly. This will be an important pre-season match as we prepare for the league opener next week after missing out last weekend due to rain. It will also be the first outing for Larvet Masunda, who arrived on Thursday morning and will be keen to get a taste of Scotland’s high-scoring, fast, and bouncy wickets! Aside from Larvet, the team is full of familiar faces, with Page and Mills up top with the bat and Smith, McNulty, Shepperson, Oliver, and Kitchen in the seam bowling unit. With spinners Hulatt and the Captain himself also in the side, Fennah will be spoilt for choice with the ball. Play begins at 11am, and the bar will be open from 12pm.
On Sunday, Hamilton Crescent will host the first league-wide soft ball tournament in the morning. With several local clubs bringing their teams – alongside our own – it promises to be a busy and exciting start to the day. Teas and coffee will be available for parents and supporters.
In the afternoon, an intra-club fixture will see the Partick XI face off against the Hamilton Crescent XI. While this is scheduled as a friendly, it will be anything but as players fight for their places next weekend.
Ahead of the game, Hamilton Crescent XI captain Moosa Vakil said
“Let’s keep it intense, but remember we are all on the same team in the end. Play hard, play smart, and use this opportunity to make your mark ahead of the season.”.
The sides have been balanced to ensure a competitive fixture with old and new faces in both sides. Partick’s Vice Captain Mills gets an early-season promotion to skipper after Williams injured his ankle – likely running! Play begins at 1pm, following the soft ball tournament.
Cricket all weekend, bar open, and lots of green space to watch – why not come down?
