W M MANN CBE

It is with great sadness that we inform members of the passing of our distinguished Honorary President, William (Bill) Mann CBE. Proud to have been West's longest-serving active member, a former opening batsman/wicketkeeper himself, he remained very supportive of and generous to the club throughout his life, and it was with great pleasure that we named our new Peel Street entry gate after him earlier this year.

Bill was a huge supporter of charity, recreation, the Arts and sport, and his efforts to ensure that the rateable value of sports clubs was reduced in the 1980s undoubtedly aided the survival of a number of clubs. He was a former President of the Scottish Cricket Union (1984) and his company was a major supporter of Scottish cricket for many years.

He was a marvellous friend to West of Scotland C.C. and we offer our sincere condolences to the Mann family on their enormous loss.
